European Night Crawler

Known as the catch all crawler or euro

European Night Crawlers are becoming a popular breed for the worm farm. In fact some worm industry leaders predict that someday European Night Crawlers (ENC) will become more popular for composting than reds and tigers. I still have the African night crawler at the top of my list.  Euros are a great pick for fishing and are also useful for vermicomposting. European Night Crawlers go by many names. They are often called catch all crawlers, Euros, and Super Red worms.

European Night Crawlers very difficult to pick as they can change a lot in colour when they are feed on a choice of food. I find them red to dark red mainly with a tip of cream on the tail but don’t get to hung up on colour this can change in different food. They are stripped and this can be seen when the stretch out Euros grow to about twice the size of red worms. They are a medium size worm not quite as large as an African Night Crawler Like red worms the Euro is easy to raise and reproduce quickly so they are good pick for both first time and experienced worm farmers. Euros are pretty hardy, love kitchen scraps, and grow quite large.

Worm farmer hint they like some carbon so add some cardboard, paper or dry leaves (BROWNS) is the composting term.

If you plan on raising bait worms the Euro is the perfect choice along with the African night crawler.

So whether it is composting, raising bait worms, producing worm castings, or simply enjoying an eco-friendly lifestyle it’s hard to beat the European Night Crawler when it comes to stocking your worm farm. A composting blend is very beneficial.

The European and African night crawlers are both excellent bait worms and starting a fishing worm farm will recycle your waste and keep you in bait.

Remember to raise worms to ready to hook size you need to take a few out like 50 -100 and fatten them
